Last week my father Gerard Cooney passed away. I loved him a great deal and I want to do as much as I can to mark his passing.
I was asked to give a eulogy for dad at his funeral. I have published the text online so my family can access it while we are separated by this health crisis.
I also decided to make a short comic I worked on with Dan Gilmore available. Syrup and Sawdust was based on dad’s stories of his own grieving for his father John Cooney. It also features a sense of bemused whimsy at the fate of the Cola salesman, which I understand was something that actually happened. This was an essential aspect of dad’s sense of humour. I thought it appropriate to share.
